Adelonema wallisii
❗️Native to Humid tropical forests of Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama (300-500m altitude)
Adelonema wallisii is a small, perennial aroid species originating from the moist tropical rainforests of Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama, where it grows at elevations between 300 and 500 meters. The plant produces elliptic to ovate-oblong leaves, typically 13–20 cm (5–8 inches) long, borne on short petioles. Its foliage is a vivid green accented by striking marbled yellow variegation.
The firm, slightly leathery leaves curve elegantly, giving the plant a full and refined look as they emerge in a neat rosette from subterranean stems. Mature plants usually reach 15–25 cm (6–10 inches) in height while spreading more broadly than tall.
This species is often compared to Aglaonema and Dieffenbachia, especially Aglaonema pictum ‘Tricolor’ and Dieffenbachia ‘Reflector’, due to its comparable variegated leaf patterns. Its slow growth and tolerance of indoor environments make it an excellent choice for desks, shelves, or terrariums. Formerly classified as Homalomena wallisii, it was reassigned to the genus Adelonema in 2016 following botanical studies that identified distinct morphological traits.
